Summer Drinks

Whether you run a cafe, restaurant or bar, the drinks you are serving can sometimes be as important as the food. Here we try and steer you through a selection of the most popular summer drinks and the types of drinks that we all like to enjoy to keep cool.

According to the British Soft Drinks Association, the soft drinks industry is worth £7.7 billion to the UK economy. Add to this the value of alcohol and hot drinks, and it is easy to see why the drinks industry in the UK is playing a vital part in the economic recovery. With this in mind, those who sell drinks in this sector need to be mindful of their customers and ensure they have a product offering that is appropriate for the time of year and is something that customers want.

Teas and Coffees

It is a well-known fact that the UK is a nation of tea and coffee drinkers, and coffee is becoming more and more popular. According to the British Coffee Association, in 2012 the estimated turnover for coffee shops was £5.8 billion. However, places that sell hot drinks have to diversify in warmer weather, and many coffee shops now have an additional menu aimed at those who want the taste of hot drinks but in the summer. During this time, coffee shops are usually selling iced versions of coffee and tea as well as cold fruit smoothies.

Alcohol and Soft Drinks

For some people, there is no substitute for a cold drink, whether it’s alcoholic or not. For those who like alcohol, the summer months usually mean Pimms, ice-cold lager or cider as well as white wine. It is also possible to get ciders and lagers with a ‘twist’, so lager that has an added flavor, or fruit ciders as well as traditional apple. In terms of soft drinks, bottled drinks such as sparkling elderflower and flavored lemonades are popular as well as traditional soft drinks from a draught soft drinks supplier. If you contact Empireuk a draught soft drinks supplier, you will find that these can include cola and lemonade as well as mixers for seasonal alcoholic drinks.

Hopefully, this has provided some useful advice on the summer drinks that work and which could be worth trying out on your customers.
