Ingredients:

  • 1 and 3/4 cups of water
  • 100 grams of powdered milk
  • 30 grams of butter
  • 1 liter of whole milk

Steps to follow:

Step: 1

There are several methods to make homemade evaporated milk, we can make it from whole milk or powdered milk. We will explain both processes so that you can select the one you prefer. We’ll start with whole milk. To do this, put a liter of milk in a wide-mouth pot. The smaller the more it will cost to evaporate it.

Step: 2

Heat over medium-high heat until it boils. If you do not have a ceramic hob and you use a stove, when the milk reaches the boiling point you should place a heat diffuser between the stove and the pot. You should stir from time to time with a wooden spoon or spatula to prevent lumps of cream from forming. Lower the heat a little and leave the milk to evaporate for an hour and a half.

Step: 3

After the time has elapsed, remove it from the heat, let it warm, and pass it through the strainer to remove the lumps. You already have your evaporated milk from the whole! Now you can use it or store it in a jar with hermetic closure, previously sterilized. As you can see, this is a very simple method, let’s see the next one.

Step: 4

The second way to make evaporated milk is to add the powdered milk, water and butter in a pot, also with a wide mouth. The butter should be at room temperature. Heat over medium-high heat until all the ingredients have dissolved and integrated properly. Stir with a spoon.

Step: 5

When you have it, remove it from the heat, let it warm and transfer the milk to a blender or container with a high edge to beat it . You should beat or blend the mixture for approximately two minutes at medium speed so that all the ingredients are fully integrated. You will see that when you beat the milk it rises over the edge of the container, which is why you should use a tall one.

Step: 6

And ready! This is also a very simple process and much faster than the previous one. Although the results are very similar, the quality of the product obtained from the longer method, that of whole milk evaporation, is somewhat better. However, if you need to prepare a quick and effective homemade evaporated milk to make a dessert, the last recipe is an ideal option.

If you didn’t have this ingredient and you were wondering how to replace evaporated milk, you already know how to get evaporated milk substitutes easily. Also, you can prepare this recipe with non-dairy milk if you prefer a dairy-free alternative.
