Wii Fit: Unhealthy Behavior

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

We’ve already heard about devastated teens and tweens being told they’re overweight by the Wii Fit, and seen Nintendo’s solution with a strip of carboard saying these results are ineffective for people under 20. But what about the impact it can have on adults? As this issue has been brought up time and time again acknowledging the fragile self esteem of children, we’ve neglected its affect on everyone else. In a time when more people are swallowing anti-depressants and climbing into the obese bracket, one must consider the relationship between positive self image, happiness, and physical health. The Wii Fit has presented us with a useful tool to aid our journey to physical fitness, at the cost of our mental health.

Nintendo Game Announcements: The Round Up

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

While I set about a looking at the list of newly announced/release schedule for Nintendo’s pair of jugernaut consoles consisting of the first half of the year, a few titles stand out while the rest seem quite underwhelming. I appreciate Nintendo for making a leaps of faith with a certain title, however I feel as if this shows just how much internal dev at Nintendo is on autopilot and/or saving their big releases for the fall.

Sony and Microsoft Trade Blows

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

You may have missed the most recent tiff between Microsoft and Sony. It was relatively low-key as far as these corporate slap-fights go. To quickly summarize the silliness, Sony came out and said that Microsoft and Nintendo’s consoles aren’t as cool as the PS3 because the PS3 comes with everything you need out of the box. Microsoft took offense to this and told Sony to shove it, not everyone needs Wi-Fi and having a variety of SKUs makes them cooler than Sony could ever hope to be.

Dear Wii: I’m Leaving

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

A word to the reader: This is not an attempt to bait anyone. I am not judging Nintendo against Microsoft or Sony since Nintendo is clearly doing their own thing at this point. The opinions contained within are mine, feel free to disagree with them, I merely ask that you do so in a civilized manner.

Chrono Trigger DS: Still One Hell of a Trip

Friday, December 5th, 2008

When Chrono Trigger was released for the Super Nintendo 13 years ago it was truly a revolutionary game. It combined the talents of the then sovereign Developers Square and Enix to create one of the most memorable RPGs of the time. For those not yet initiated into the “Cult of Chrono,” it may seem odd to have such deep reverence, which could easily be mistaken for the blatant rants of a fanboy, for a game that seems generic at first glance; However even after a decade, Chrono still remains the benchmark for RPGs and games as a whole.

Sonic Unleashed Turns Into A Werehog, Destroys My Faith In Sega

Monday, December 1st, 2008

I had such high hopes for Sonic Unleashed when I first heard about it. The first videos and screenshots reminded me of Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast. Now THAT was a Sonic game. Fast paced action and platforming made it an excellent addition to the franchise. That’s the next gen Sonic game everyone’s been looking for. Something that takes all of the things that were great about the older games in the franchise, and brings them into this generation of gaming. Unfortunately, Sonic Unleashed isn’t it.
