Peter Molyneux Is Playing A Very Different Game Of Fable 2 Than The Rest Of Us
September 16th, 2008Back in July, right after E3 I recall listening to an episode of 1UP Yours in which Garnett Lee described a backstage encounter with Peter Molyneux. During that encounter, Molyneux showed Garnett some actual Fable 2 gameplay. After wandering about for a bit causing trouble, Molyneux led his wandering minstrel under a bridge and, to Garnett’s surprise, killed him dead. See, Garnett, along with the rest of us, was under the impression that the minstrel was a reward for doing good deeds. Molyneux explained that the minstrel was quite annoying, and he wanted to see how long gamers would put up with him before killing him.
I don’t think I ever laughed as hard as I did when I heard that story - that is until I hit up IGN this morning.
They have an article up all about the first three hours of Fable 2. Near the end, the author has the following to say on the topic of the Pub Games exploit:
Just be warned. Molyneux has said that the cheat was no accident and that those who used it to earn their money will be in for a surprise.
So Molyneux plans on giving negative consequences to the act of dishonestly accumulating a Fable 2 fortune. Evil points? A month in the slammer? A rabid dog? No one seems to know exactly what the punishment will be, but one thing is clear: Fable 2 is the most massively multiplayer game ever - it’s all of us against Peter Molyneux!

He’s either really making up for the disappointments of Fable I, great at marketing, or just bat shit crazy… maybe all three!

Peter Molyneux is genius! I’ve always been a fan, but this makes him sound like the Andy Kaufman of video games.
