Trine: A Beautiful Fairytale

Monday, July 20th, 2009

While trying to get through my pile of unplayed or “unfinished” games, a pile that’s grown considerably over the past month, I just couldn’t resist picking up “Trine” via Steam shortly after its release. I’d had my eyes on the game since I stumbled upon a couple of screenshots and an in-game video some weeks ago.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Time to get your claws out, bub

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a video game developed by Raven Software, the same people that brought us X-Men: Legends I & II, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (They like colons). They’ve certainly established themselves as one of (if not the) top comic book…

Riddick: Dark Athena - Stay Out of the Dark!

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Vin Diesel is in the midst of the safest comeback attempt I’ve seen in a long time, in that it appears that he’s revisiting every property he’s ever seen any success in. First he reprised his role in the latest…

Killing Floor: Enter the Meat Grinder

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Cooperative gaming is a fad these days and last week Killing Floor arrived to help scratch the itch. Originally Killing Floor was a “total conversion” mod for Unreal Tournament 2004, a mod so professional and popular that it has been released as a stand-alone game, with help from the original modding team and distributed via Steam by Tripwire Interactive.

Empire: Total War – Prepare to Forge Your Own History

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Empire Total War is the latest addition to the legendary Total War series and brings back many memories of the previous games, but with new technology and some great graphics, can it outshine its predecessors? Or will the bugs in this game be the thing that kills it?

Broken Steel: Steel Be With You!

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

It’s no secret to anyone who frequents this site that I’m a fan of Fallout 3. Unfortunately, it did ship with one major flaw - once you finished the main quest, the game was completely over. There’s no going back and finishing your side quests, or just playing around in the Capital Wastelands, it’s just over. Until now, that is.

Velvet Assassin - A Real Femme Fatale

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

I’ve always been into stealth-action titles so regardless what any of the large gaming websites said I was almost certainly picking Velvet Assassin up, and I decided to do so for the PC.

Velvet Assassin is a stealth-action game set in World War II. The game’s protagonist is Violette Summer, a British agent working deep behind the German lines.

Zeno Clash - Beautiful, yet so Bizarre

Monday, May 4th, 2009

As the big budget game publishers tighten their wallets in the aftermath of the crashing stock market, and choose to focus on sequels and generally tried and true formulas for games we look at the Indie scene for something out of the ordinary.

Resident Evil 5: Killing Zombies Has Never Been This Fun (which makes you racist)

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Resident Evil 5 is a fantastic game. That being said, the game is not without it problem and ultimately feels like it needs to be viewed through rose-colored glasses in the wake of it’s genre defining predecessor (ie Resident Evil 4). RE5 puts you back in control of series veteran Chris Redfield taking part in another ill-fated mission which, in the grand tradition of Resident Evil games, predictably goes to shit as soon as possible. Setting the game in Africa has been a major point of controversy surrounding the release of the game with the supposed racist and stereotypical imagery that it perpetuates, however Capcom ensures a veritable mixing pot of races to dispose of throughout the game, and ultimately a zombie is a zombie, nothing more.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope Travels The Universe In Search Of Mediocrity

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

The Earth has been ravaged by world war 3. Humanity is forced to live underground, due to the high contamination levels found on the surface of the planet. Tenacious creatures that we are, mankind looks to the stars in search of a new home. It’s a somber, heavy concept, and one that’s delivered in a frank and straight forward way by the introduction cinematic found in Star Ocean: The Last Hope. It’s also a story that greatly appealed to the sci-fi nerd in me. As that cinematic drew to a close, I prepared myself for a tale of humanity’s triumph over adversity.
