BFTP: Turtles in Time
August 6th, 2009Another BFTP centered around a game that recently got a brand new remake, namely the classic side-scrolling beat-em-up “TMNT: Turtles in Time”. The game was originally released on arcade in 1991 and later ported to the Super Nintendo, which is where I know it from. It was one of my favorite games on the system and a blast to play with a couple of buds. Now Ubisoft has released a remake of the classic via XBLA, “TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled”. It is essentially the same game, only with modern graphics, cheesy voice acting and some new gameplay mechanics. The biggest change from the original (other than the visuals) is that you can now launch attacks on the diagonal, in the original you could walk up and down the screen, but only attack to the left and right.
Turtles in Time is a game from a simpler era, the gameplay is repeatative and there is no long list of attack combos. The game is still fun to play though, especially in co-op, and if you’ve got the cash to spare and feel up for some old-school beat-em-up with a fresh coat of paint then go for it. For 800 Microsoft points I just wish they could have included the original arcade or SNES version of the game and some other modes in the package.
